Yep i know the book. Actually I have been lending it around for a while here . It’s a really good book (i could say motivational in some cases ). The idea of the post is that it pays off to look for secondary skills that showcase the effort spent in becoming what you want to become.

This reminds me about this book: Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell. He is describing there how success is based on a set of events and skills that all should happen together and sometimes in a specific order; it’s not just one skill or one lucky event that transforms a common idea/action in something extraordinary.
Typing I believe anyway comes with exercise, without which you can’t become a great programmer anyway. It is not important if you type with all your fingers bla bla, but that you type fast enough and that you don’t need to think about typing process, so you can focus on what you intend to talk. Anyway, for new developers the typing skills say nothing about their ability to become great developers in time; much more important are the other skills detailed in this post.
